Lasik Recovery Process: 4 Recovery Stage

People who have undergone Lasik surgery report instant recovery twenty minutes after the procedure. In truth, however, the recovery after a Lasik procedure takes more than twenty minutes because it is a step-by-step recovery lasting up to six months. Although close to perfect vision is achieved minutes after the surgery, the most optimum results can be observed after six months. Lasik surgery patients are required to be patient since the length of the recovery period will depend on the procedure used.

Stages of Lasik Recovery

The recovery period after a Lasik surgery occurs in four stages. The first stage happens a day after the surgery. A patient can return to his normal routine a day after the surgery. Special medications like antibiotics will need to be continued regularly. Rubbing the eye should be avoided during the week that follows the surgery. Showering is also okay but soap, shampoo and water in the eye should be avoided stringently. Lubricating the eyes is also necessary to be done during this stage.

The second stage occurs a week after the surgery. The same precautionary measures have to be taken similar to that of the first stage. Lubricating the eye should be first and foremost in the list during the stage. Make-up can be used as long as the doctor gives his go signal.

The third stage occurs three weeks after the surgery when the patient can indulge in strenuous sports. Sports like swimming can also be done provided that proper eye protection is worn.

The fourth stage of Lasik recovery ranges from three to six months after the surgery. From the time the surgery took place until this time, vision fluctuations are to be expected and are normally a part of the healing process. At the end of this stage, however, vision is expected to stabilize.
